Captain Richard Chalhoub - Chairman
Born in ‘El-Mina’ which means ‘The Port’ in the North of Lebanon, Captain Chalhoub the son to a Shipping Agent was exposed to the maritime industry from early age and his passion for the sea led him to the heart of international shipping industry; to Bremen in Germany. Captain Chalhoub’s sailing career started as a 16 year-old deck boy on a German Commercial Vessel and with only 34 years of age he became one of the youngest Captains in Germany in command of various types of vessels in national and international waters. His technical experience and knowledge in the maritime world combined with his multicultural background made him a perfect candidate for the international ‘house of 100 professions’ Munich Reinsurance Company in Munich where he launched a different path of his career in Risk Management, Reinsurance and Client Management. After 10 years of working with an international organization, Captain Chalhoub returned to the Middle East where he established the Reinsurance Brokerage and Consultancy Company ‘Zaris’. Captain Chalhoub has been known in the market for his profound knowledge in Marine as well as customized reinsurance solutions. Risk Management, Claims Handling, Recoveries and Customized Solutions are just a few to mention. He is famous for his passionate lectures and speeches about Marine Insurance and Reinsurance aspects and has been the ‘Head of Session’ for a number of prestigious Conferences over the last years.
Ronald P. Chidiac - Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Chidiac has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. He started his career as an actuary in founding SARIMA sarl in 1995, a consultancy firm that provides actuarial, statistical, and risk management services in Lebanon and the region. In 2002, he became the Managing Director of MOTION sal, an organization providing insurance companies with integrated TPA services and Cost containment expertise related to Motor. After his stint in MOTION, Mr. Chidiac turned his focus to further promote the actuarial and insurance-related consultancy services. It is in that context that he contributed in launching Total Care Lebanon and Total Care Saudi medical TPAs before joining PwC as a Partner in 2008. He worked with PwC on developing the actuarial practices within the MENA region and providing the market with strategy-driven consultancy services. In 2010, he accepted the position of General Manager at Arab Reinsurance Company and managed to raise the visibility of the company to a higher level. Mr. Chidiac launched the personal lines and risk management departments at Arab Re, while re-engineering the internal structure by optimizing the processes and procedures. On the academic side, Mr. Chidiac has pioneered the creation of an actuarial program in Lebanon in promoting the partnership between the USJ and the ISFA (Lyon). He’s a visiting professor at the USJ teaching actuarial science since 2001 and is currently the President of the Lebanese Association of Actuaries. In addition of being a qualified actuary of the “Institut des Actuaires” and the Lebanese Association of Actuaries, he holds an Engineering degree in Statistics, Economy, and Actuarial Science from ENSAE- Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique- France.
Kerstin Marx Chalhoub - Executive Director
Mrs. Chalhoub finalized her Diploma in Insurance before the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Munich, Germany. An extensive training with Munich Re as well as Allianz was followed by more than 6 years of Reinsurance Underwriting with the Casualty, Property and Treaty Department of Munich Re. Prior to joining Zaris Cyprus in 2001 and now Broktech, Kerstin was involved in the set-up of Munich Re’s ART unit ‘CPS’.
Basma Barakat - Executive Director
Ms. Barakat holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business from California State University of Fullerton. Her reinsurance career started at Arab Reinsurance Company in 1998. Since then she has been exposed to the various facets of the industry starting from Non-Life facultative and treaty underwriting to a managerial position that enabled her to engineer special risk transfer mechanism, be it through actual risk transfer or finite reinsurance solutions for specific medical groups. She has also structured scenarios for catastrophic technical events that might impact a reinsurance company’s surplus and made sure to find an ultimate retrocession at the right price. In her last position, she was managing the various projects and tasks assigned to market analysis and statistics, and has explored problematic claims while monitoring the claim movements and reserves.
